HAWKINS COUNTY, Tenn. -

A campground in Hawkins County could be closing for good.

Signs have been posted at the TVA John Sevier Campground alerting people a fence may be installed closing the site in September.

TVA officials tell us they're reviewing safety, security, and maintenance costs.

But we learned this campground is different, because in the past it was maintained by the now closed John Sevier Coal Plant. "We also have the responsibility to be sure it's a safe place. There's security but with the plant not in operation, security and personnel in general are just scarce," said Travis Brickey with TVA.

"It was pretty disappointing to see that [sign], to think we're going to lose this campground," said camper Hugh Belt.

TVA officials say the walking path and boat ramp will remain open.

An answer on closing this campground is expected later this summer.
