Good news for those living close to Watauga Dam -- Tennessee Valley Authority officials tell us the water has finally crested.
TVA says lake levels are three feet above the record high set in April 1987.
There are still concerns about more rainfall, but right now TVA is trying to control levels and minimize flooding by running water through generators. "We're also sluicing it. Sluicing is low-level outlet and we're moving about over a million gallons per minute out of Watauga. We're doing that in a controlled manner so we don't flood the people downstream," said Chuck Bach, General Manager of River Scheduling for TVA.
TVA officials tell us by generating this much water it could reduce power rates by mid-summer.
