SMYTH COUNTY, Va. -

The 9/11 memorial at the Marion Volunteer Fire Department could get larger.

The Town of Marion spokes person Ken Heath tells us that currently outside of the fire department, there is a piece of steel that came from the actual towers.

He tells us now they want to expand that memorial to add lights that will shine up in the sky and represent the fallen Twin Towers, similar to the memorial in New York City.

Heath tells us they are getting close to their goal and have raised a little over half of the money. "We're looking for about another $2,500 to put in the second light. Its lights will shine a beam up into the sky, and they'll go probably 8 or 10 feet up in the air," he said.

Heath says if you would like to donate to help purchase the lights, you can mail a check to the Marion Volunteer Fire Department.

Donations can be sent to Marion 9-11 Lights, c/o The Marion Volunteer Fire Department, Marion Town Hall, POB 1005, Marion, VA 24354-1005.
