ABINGDON, VA. -

Students across Virginia know what to do if they are in school when a tornado strikes.

The students at Abingdon elementary school took part in a statewide tornado drill Tuesday morning.

As part of the drill, students were instructed to file into the hallways and cover their heads to protect themselves from flying debris.

According to Pokey Harris, the emergency management director for Washington County, during the last three years, 67 tornadoes have hit Virginia, killing ten people and injuring more than 200 others.
