More people are buying lottery tickets in Tennessee, benefiting students all over the state.
The Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation released sales totals Tuesday morning showing an all-time high of nearly $340 million in proceeds that go to state education programs.
This was the ninth straight year of record sales and is a five percent increase over last year.
The lottery also recorded close to $1.4 billion dollars in total sales last year.
"Like any successful business, we keep sharply focused on our corporate mission," said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO of the Tennessee Education Lottery Corporation in a Tuesday morning news release. "Developing innovative and entertaining games for our players, emphasizing efficiency and best business practices across the organization, and working closely with our outstanding retailer channel all contributed to another extraordinary year. The end result, of course, is generating more dollars to assist Tennessee students and their families, and we’re proud to have played our part."
Tennessee education programs have received nearly three billion dollars in lottery funding and the lottery has funded more than 700,000 grants or scholarships since it started in 2004.
