UNICOI COUNTY, Tenn. - UPDATE 1:08 p.m.: THP is releasing more information about this morning's accident involving pedestrians at a bus stop.
The Unicoi County Sheriff's Office and THP responded to the call that was placed at 6:30 Thursday morning.
They say the school bus had the 'Stop' arm out with red lights flashing. That's when a 6-year-old boy and his grandmother were trying to cross the road to get onto the school bus.
Troopers tell us that's when a 2011 Kia Sorento hit both of them. They tell us the 6-year-old boy was loaded into ambulance, then officers noticed the grandmother had also been injured.
Authorities say the child had broken femur, a base skull fracture, and has a blood clot between the skull and the brain. The grandmother had a chipped femur and broken ribs.
The driver told troopers she didn't see red lights on the bus, only the yellow lights.
The driver, 57-year-old Kris Ann Waterhouse, is being charged with two counts of reckless aggravated assault and one count of passing a school bus.
UPDATE 12:00 p.m.: We've learned the driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrians, a female whose name has not been released yet, has been arrested. She is currently at the Unicoi County jail.
We'll bring you more information as it's available.
