KINGSPORT, Tenn. - UPDATE 6/10/2014 2:50 p.m.: The Kingsport Police Department has released the names of the people involved in a fatal accident.
The driver of the vehichle was 54-year-old James Hoover of Stone Park, Illinois. He was pronounced dead at Holston Valley Medical Center.
The passenger was 45-year-old Jackson Meadows of Knoxville, Tennessee. He was sent to Holston Valley Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
UPDATE 5:19 p.m.: The Kingsport Police Department released the following updated information about the accident:
"The occupant in this crash who was ejected and transported via helicopter is now deceased. His death was pronounced at 3:59 p.m. after his arrival at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was believed to have been the driver of the vehicle.
The other occupant, now believed to be the passenger, was transported to Bristol Regional Medical Center, not Holston Valley Medical Center as was previously released. He is now conscious and communicating, and his injuries at this point appear to be non-life threatening.
Additional information will be released at the appropriate time in the investigation."
The Kingsport Police Department tells News 5 one lane of traffic in the northbound lane is now open on Interstate 81 at mile marker 65 after previously being blocked due to an accident.
They tell us a red SUV rolled several times, causing the driver to be thrown from the vehicle. That person was taken to the hospital by helicopter.
A passenger in the SUV was sent to the hospital by ambulance. Police say that person has serious injuries.
