NEW INFORMATION: Jet ski accident claims life of teen from Bristol, Virginia

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. - UPDATE: The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency has provided new information and clarified other previously provided details regarding Friday afternoon's jet ski accident that claimed the life of a 14-year-old girl from Bristol, Virginia.

TWRA Spokesman Matt Cameron said Steve Stout of Bristol, Virginia was riding a jet ski by himself on Boone Lake near Goodman Cemetery Road, when his jet ski collided with another. That jet ski held Stout's daughter, Bailey and Amanda Hulse.

TWRA policy is to not release the name of minors involved in boating accidents.

However, News 5 learned from friends of the family that Bailey Stout, 14, died in the accident.


UPDATE: The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency is investigating a deadly jet ski accident that happened Friday afternoon on Boone Lake.

TWRA Spokesman Matt Cameron told News 5 the accident happened around 2:40 p.m.

Cameron said the victim, a 14-year-old girl, was riding on a jet ski when she was hit by a second jet ski, being ridden by two relatives.  Cameron told News 5 the 14-year-old, who is from Bristol, died from the impact.

"A third party witness in a pontoon boat actually came over to assist. They put her in the boat. CPR was performed until the paramedics arrived," Cameron said.

According to Cameron, there were a lot of people around when the accident happened.

"There was someone on shore that saw what was going on who swam out to help. A lot of good response from the local folks. I think they did all they could," Cameron said.

Now,TWRA officers will try to piece together the accident.

"The jet skis were borrowed, so we've actually taken ownership of them temporarily and taken them back to one of our impound lots," Cameron said. "Our officers will do a thorough investigation of both crafts, take evidence from them, and try to determine exactly what happened. "

Cameron said the TWRA should have a clear understanding of what happened in the accident, considering there were several witnesses on shore and in boats.

The TWRA told News 5 this is the tenth death on Tennessee waters in 2014.



News 5 WCYB has confirmed through the TWRA, a 14-year-old girl has died on Boone Lake.

The TWRA tells us the family of the girl was from Bristol, Tennessee.

The death is a result of a collision between two personal watercraft.
