Pet masks donated to fire department

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Kingsport Fire Department began placing newly-donated pet rescue kits on engines at each station on Thursday.

Dreana Mowen of Kingsport donated the masks.

The masks have a rubber ring on the inside that fit snugly over the animal's snout.

Kingsport fire officials say during a fire, human life and safety come first; but if firefighters can, they will rescue an animal.

We learned across the U.S. in 2013, more than 40,000 pets died in home fires.
