Kingsport police say they're searching for a suspect wanted for kidnapping and robbing his mother and grandmother 4 days before Mother's Day. Another person has been arrested. Police say the victims were held captive for 12 hours.
Officers say on May 10 around 7 p.m., Matthew Quillen (left) and Kristen Way (right) arrived at a home on Bell Ridge Road to visit Quillen's 46-year-old mother and a 66-year-old grandmother.
The victims thought Quillen and Way pointed a firearm at them and ordered them into the living room.
Police say the victims were bound by their hands and feet with duct tape and taped to one another. They say Quillen placed underwear into their mouths and secured the underwear with duct tape.
We're told by police the two suspects then spent the next several hours ransacking the home. Police say the only thing reported stolen was an antique coin collection.
The next morning around 7 o'clock, police say the suspects released the victims and fled the scene. They apparently put the duct tape and other evidence in a trash bag and took it with them. They left the weapon behind, which has been determined to be a BB gun. The trash bag was later found discarded on the side of the road, about 100 yards from the house.
Police say the victims fell asleep after being held captive for 12 hours. When they woke up, they called the grandmother's husband to report what happened. He then called KPD.
Way was found at her home and has been arrested for 2 counts of Aggravated Robbery and 2 counts of Especially Aggravated Kidnapping. She is in the Sullivan County Jail pending arraignment.
Police say Quillen remains at large, with his whereabouts unknown. A warrant has been obtained for his arrest, charging him with 2 counts of Aggravated Robbery and 2 counts of Especially Aggravated Kidnapping.
Detectives believe he is now in possession of an actual firearms and should be considered armed and dangerous.
Quillen is a 27-year-old man. He's about 5 foot 11 inches and weighs about 175 pounds. He has blue eyes and a shaved head. Police say his head, face and neck are covered with numerous tattoos. They say his last known address is 991 Kinsler Ave. in Kingsport.
Police are asking you to contact them with any information on Quillen's whereabouts.
