Kingsport pharmacist sentenced in Kansas for distributing misbranded drugs

A Kingsport, Tennessee pharmacist has been sentenced in Kansas for distributing a misbranded Chinese-made drug to be given to kidney dialysis patients in that state.

The U.S. Attorney's office in Topeka says 53-year-old Robert Harshbarger, Junior was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to pay nearly $850,000 in restitution, a $25,000 fine, and he must forfeit $425,000.

News 5 has learned, Harshbarger pleaded guilty in may to fraud and distributing a misbranded drug.  He admitted to substituting a cheaper import for an FDA-approved drug.
