Kingsport city manager search narrows

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The search for the next Kingsport city manager is making progress.

Kingsport Mayor Dennis Phillips tells us they had more than 60 people apply for the position. They've narrowed it down to four candidates and one alternate; out of the four, only one candidate is local.

The candidates are Jeff Fleming from Kingsport, Russell Hawes from Simpsonville, South Carolina, Sue McLaughlin from Lincoln, Illinois, and Dan Porta from Cartersville, Georgia.

Mayor Phillips tells us they will be conducting background checks on all four candidates.

Phillips says this is one of the most important decisions the city can make. "Through the Eastman expansion, through the industrial economic development growth, we need someone that is strong in economic development. Someone that's had some leadership skills," he told us.

Mayor Phillips tells us the next step is to start the interview process, which will begin on April 10.
