UPDATE: Chattanooga hotel clerk did not want ex-ETSU coach arrested

Charges were dropped against a former member of East Tennessee State's coaching staff on Thursday because a hotel clerk threatened by the coach did not want him to be arrested.

Hamilton County District Attorney spokeswoman Melydia Clewell told the Associated Press on Friday the clerk indicated he didn't want Jeffrey Brumett arrested. Clewell said the clerk didn't consider himself a victim and didn't feel threatened in any way, so prosecutors decided Brumett's behavior didn't warrant criminal charges.

Brumett, a defensive line coach for the Bucs football program, was dismissed by the Johnson City university a week after his June 23 arrest at a Chattanooga hotel on charges of assault, public intoxication and disorderly conduct. Investigators had said the coach had told the clerk he would kill them during an argument over a room key.
