Man sentenced to 25 years in manslaughter plea

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - A Johnson City man has been sentenced for his involvement in the disappearance and death of a woman.

31-year-old Steven Bennett was initially charged with first-degree murder. He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence.

Judge Stacy Street sentenced him to 25 years in prison.

Police believe he killed Vonda Donaldson in September 2012 and threw her body off the Butler Bridge in Carter County.

She was found in Watuaga Lake three days after her family reported her missing.
