Girls Scouts to learn about dangers of prescription drugs

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Girl Scouts across the region are being invited to the Generation RX Girl Scout Day at the ETSU Gatton College of Pharmacy.

They will get the chance to find out more about the pharmaceutical industry and even earn a new badge.

The girls will spend the day learning the dangers of using prescription drugs, and how to avoid becoming addicted.

The badge they will earn was created by a pharmacy student, Cara Douglas, who is also a Girl Scout Gold Award winner.

She says early education is key. "It's very important to talk to these girls at such a young age because we see this problem, there are 2,500 individuals, in a recent statistic, that between the ages of 12 to 17 that they tried their first prescription pain killer," explains Douglas.

If you want your Girl Scout to attend you must register by January 21.
