Prosecution to call witnesses Tuesday in Rep. David Hawk's assault trial

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - A member of the Tennessee general assembly is on trial in Greeneville.

Tennessee District 5  Representative David Hawk is charged with aggravated assault against his now ex-wife Crystal Goan.

Investigators said the attack allegedly happened at their home last March.

The state told jurors during opening statements Monday that Hawk got upset after seeing a text message on his wife's cell phone.

They say that's when he came into the bedroom and grabbed Goan by the arm and head and forced her to the floor.

Hawk says that never happened.
The prosecutor also told jurors that Hawk assaulted her again.

"Mr. hawk grabs her and he hits her with his hand.  now i anticipate the proof will show that he was a wrestler at the high school.  But clearly she was no match", said prosecutor Joe Baugh.

Defense attorney Wade Davies responded during opening statements, "He opens the door, she is trying to stop him.  The next thing that David sees and hears he hears Crystal saying she is going to kill him.  Put a bullet in his head.  He sees her with a gun coming from the right.  Very close. He's out the door".

The prosecutor will be calling witnesses Tuesday morning. The trial is expected to last through Wednesday.
