Visitors to Tennessee will now get a dose of history at welcome centers around the state with new Civil War exhibits.
Thursday's unveiling comes on the heels of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. The permanent installations are meant to educate people on the important role Tennessee played in the war and to promote rural tourism to historic sites.
Susan Whitaker is the commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Tourism Development. "They give them a map, the Civil War trail brochures that we have sitting right next to the exhibit," she said. "They can take that, we have a Civil War app they can download onto their phones. They can go around, find all that history, take the little tour, and have breakfast, have lunch, have dinner, stay over, spend money."
