Tennessee governor signs executive order to regulate National Guard member pay

An expired executive order to cover the loss of salaries by state employees who are called to active duty by the National Guard or Armed Forces Reserves has been renewed by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam.

The order will extend the policy put in place by a former governor, in response to state workers being called into active duty after the September 11th terrorist attacks.

The measure requires government agencies and departments to extend military leave to those employees and also requires them to provide off-setting pay when the active-duty wages are less than their normal salary.

This is the third time Gov. Haslam has renewed the order.
