Appalachian Power Company has launched a program to protect its power grid. Crews are inspecting thousands of power poles, looking for any structural damage. The company serves more than one million people, many of them in our area, and the program is supposed to help save time and money.
In just a few days, two controversial speed cameras on a busy stretch of highway 11W in Mount Carmel will be permanently deactivated. That's thanks to a Tennessee law banning unmanned cameras as their contracts expire.
Mount Carmel may expand the town park at Tuesday's Board of Mayor and Alderman meeting. The board is considering buying three parcels of land adjacent to the park.
