JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -

The Upper East Special Olympics track and field event will be held on ETSU's campus Friday.  The event will feature athletes from Washington, Carter, Johnson, and Unicoi counties.

Some of the events will be wheelchair races, standing long jump, the softball throw and several dash events.

The track and field competitions will be held at the Mountain States Health Alliance Athletic Center, starting with opening ceremonies at 9:30 Friday morning featuring the Parade of Athletes and the drum corp from Happy Valley High School.

After the parade, some athletes will join the Johnson City Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies, to light the torch.  The Science Hill High School color guard will present the colors as the Pledge of Allegiance is recited.  The National Anthem and invocation will follow.
