Southwest Virginia landowners to combine royalty lawsuits into class-action suit
A U.S. District Court judge made a ruling in a lawsuit by Southwest Virginia landowners who are suing two energy companies for royalties. The judge is allowing those lawsuits to be combined into one class-action case.
According to court documents, the owners claim EQT Production Company and CNS Gas Company based their royalty payments on below market gas prices and deducted for operation expenses. The landowners say that violated the lease agreement.
The cases involve more than $30 million in disputed natural gas royalties from across Southwest Virginia. The money is currently being held in an escrow account.
