Some dogs and cats at the Smyth County Animal Shelter are looking for homes and they only have until November 4 to find one.

The shelter is getting ready to shut down temporarily. The building needs to meet code for the Americans with Disabilities Act.

All of the animals have to be out of the shelter by Monday, November 4, or they'll be put down.

The shelter held an adoption event on Sunday. We're told nine pets found new homes.

The shelter is hoping to get the remaining pets adopted.

If you would like to help contact the shelter at (276) 646-2222.

The shelter also has a Facebook page with more information on the animals available for adoption. Click here to visit that page.
