WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. -

UPDATED, 6:49 a.m.: A home is destroyed after firefighters were forced to battle a house fire and weather.

Washington County, Virginia officers tell us the fire before 9 p.m. Saturday night. Crews responded to the home on Colony Lane near Jonesboro Road.

First responders say one person was in the home when the fire started, but made it out safely.

Firefighters tell us the neighborhood doesn’t have any fire hydrants, so they had to shuttle tankers to deliver water. They say cold weather also slowed down their progress.

Crews were experiencing icing issues. Eventually, the Virginia Department of Transportation delivered salt to the area.

Investigators are still unsure what caused the fire, but they do tell us the home was destroyed.
