Search crews looking for missing man in Big Stone Gap
The search continues for a man in Big Stone Gap, Virginia -- Terry Bishop was reported missing last Thursday and his family believes his mental issues could have been a factor in his disappearance. Click here to read the original article.
Days later, they have found no traces of Bishop. "Both doors were unlocked; the keys were on the counter. His car was unlocked. He was nowhere to be found," said Laura Rago, Bishop’s niece.
Misty Hillman, another of Bishop's nieces, tells News 5 that was unusual behavior for Bishop; she says he has diabetes and schizophrenia and follows a strict routine. "If he went anywhere he took his car and always had his key in his pocket,” said Hillman.
Hillman says Bishop's medication was recently changed for his condition. The family fears Bishop may have become confused and wandered off, leaving no clue of his location. "Everybody in the family has pretty much covered the areas where we thought he would be, because he only went certain places," said Hillman.
They've done all they know to do, but aren't giving up. "We've put up flyers everywhere, talked with the police. We had the search and rescue team come down here. We've been everywhere we could think of, talked to everybody," Hillman told us.
Rago says they're going to keep looking until Bishop is found and tells us they're prepared for whatever the outcome may be. "The best and the worst, we have to be [prepared]," said Rago.
"Regardless of what the family has to go through, we want him to be found," said Hillman.
The family says Bishop's insulin and schizophrenia medication are still at the house, so he doesn't have access to either of them.
Bishop's nephew works in a local emergency room and has been taking extra shifts to make sure he's there in case Bishop shows up and is confused.
Rescue teams are still searching for Bishop as of May 14. If you have any information on Terry Bishop's whereabouts, you're asked to call the Big Stone Gap Police department at 276-523-0117.
