Bristol School board members met with State Senator, Bill Carrico and Delegate Israel O'Quinn at Highland View Elementary School to discuss a number of topics.
Superintendent of schools, Mark Lineburg told the lawmakers that more funding is needed for high poverty schools. He also suggested that funding could be used to train staff on how to meet the needs of poverty stricken families.
State Senator, Bill Carrico agreed. "There are ways that we can create a grant system that schools like Highland View could use for students to come in during the summer. " Carrico said. "They can keep fresh on what they've learned throughout the year. We can manage to do that."
The school system would like to see more jobs come into the community to help raise the poverty level.
