According to the JCPB, A Johnson City Power Board customer reported receiving a phone call from an unknown party posing as a JCPB employee and demanding money to prevent disconnection of electrical services earlier Thursday.
Utility management said details of this incident are very similar to reports received nearly a month ago. JCPB officials fear this may represent a resurgence of fraudulent activity preying upon JCPB customers.
JCPB cautions its customers to be wary of any calls from parties claiming to represent the utility.
If there is ever any question as to the true identity of a JCPB representative, concerned customers should ask for the representative’s name, department, and phone number before hanging up and contacting JCPB customer service at (423) 952-JCPB (5272) to confirm the representatives identity and the validity of their requests.
The JCPB serves over 76,000 customers within Washington, Sullivan, Carter and Greene Counties in Northeast Tennessee.
The JCPB is a not-for-profit, public power provider and is the tenth largest of the TVA's 155 electricity distributors.
