Blood Assurance looking for donations

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Blood Assurance Regional Blood Center will conduct public blood drives at the following locations:

  • Friday, Feb. 14, 12p-5p, Coome's Center, Abingdon, VA
  • Monday, Feb. 17, 10a-3p, Franklin Woods Community Hospital, Johnson City, TN
  • Monday, Feb. 17, 1p-5p, Abingdon Health & Rehab Center, Abingdon, VA
  • Tuesday, Feb. 18, 11a-4p, Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Galax, VA
  • Tuesday, Feb. 18, 12p-5p, Food City, Gray, TN
  • Wednesday, Feb. 19, 10a-3p, Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, TN
  • Wednesday, Feb. 19, 10a-3p, Wytheville Community College, Wytheville, VA
  • Thursday, Feb. 20, 11a-4p, Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion, VA

All blood types are needed. Donors with O-negative blood type are especially encouraged to donate as O-negative is the universal blood type, given to patients in an emergency situation when their own blood type is unknown.

Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. The process usually takes about 30 minutes and includes a complimentary snack and t-shirt. Donors should eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of fluids -avoiding caffeine- prior to giving blood.
