BRISTOL, Tenn. -

A local high schooler has accomplished a rare achievement.

Tyler Despard, who is graduating from Tennessee High, will be going to the Air Force Academy in June.

Only 10% of applicants get accepted to the Air Force Academy, which is located in Colorado.

Despard attended St. Anne Catholic School before going to Tennessee High.

Today he visited the students at St. Anne to talk to soon-to-be high school students about how he achieved his goal.

He told them this is an amazing honor.

"Just to be part of something so much bigger than myself," said Despard. "They call it the long blue line of excellence -- a group of people who have come through the academy who have served their country who are still here today, and some who are not. It's the history behind it and being able to be part of something as amazing as the United States Air Force."}

Despard hopes to have his pilot's license before he leaves for the academy, and then maybe he'll become a fighter pilot.
