The debate was sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the Washington County, Virginia membership under the leadership of Carol Fields. WCYB-TV and the Bristol Herald Courier co-sponsored the event and the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center served as host for the event.

Dr. Teresa Keller, Professor of Mass Communications at Emory & Henry College, moderated the event. Keller hosts a radio show called This Conversation on the college’s radio station, WEHC-FM, 90.7.
