Johnson City Police arrested a man they say was caught in the act of attempting to steal parts off a vehicle.

Police say they got a call from a Central Street resident back in August who said a person was trying to steal a catalytic converter from a parked vehicle.  The caller told officers he caught the man in the act when he returned home.

Police say the resident identified the person tampering with the vehicle, from a photo line-up, as Timothy Nickles.  Officers arrested Nickles Wednesday after he applied for housing at the Johnson City Housing Authority.

Nickles is now charged with vandalism over $500 and theft over $500.  He was taken to the Washington County Detention Center.  His bond was set at $15,000.
