SCOTT COUNTY, Va. -

We have new facts on a Scott County police chase that ended in a crash Sunday night.

Scott County sheriff's officials told News 5 the car in the pursuit was stolen from Kingsport.

Lieutenant Jim Benton said officers tried to pull the car over for a brake light violation, and it didn't stop.

Instead, the car gradually gained speed.

According to Lt. Benton, officials chased the small four-door Honda for about eight miles, with the suspect car going as fast as 80 miles-an-hour on A.P. Carter Highway.

Officers said the pursuit ended when the car left the road.

"In the neighborhood of 65 to 70 miles per hour, the car just veered off to the left, went through a fence, went airborne, and clipped a tree and then spun around and came to a rest on top of a stump," explained Lt. Benton.

Officers told us both the driver and passenger of that car were injured and flown to the hospital.

Lt. Benton says charges are pending.
