ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway that was being repaired after a slope gave way is now open to traffic three weeks ahead of schedule.
Superintendent Mark Woods says the section of the parkway from Milepost 376 at Ox Creek Road to Milepost 355 near the entrance to Mt. Mitchell State Park is open.
That stretch of road was closed for stabilization work after a crack developed just north of Tanbark Ridge Tunnel at Milepost 374.
With this repairs complete, all 469 miles of parkway are now open for access. The Craggy Gardens Picnic Area and Visitor Center at Milepost 364 is scheduled to open next Friday. It had been closed during the repair project.
