WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. -

Students at Washington County, Virginia schools can rest assured that their first day of school will be extra safe.

The Washington County, Virginia Sheriff's Office tells us that when school starts tomorrow, personnel from the sheriff's department will be posted at each of the 17 schools in the county.

This is a part of the department's "Once a Day Every Day" school safety initiative.

Sheriff Fred Newman says that this initiative requires all sheriff's office personnel with assigned vehicles to visit one school at least one time every day.

He says their goal is to provide as much safety and security for the faculty, staff and students as possible.
