Born under the birth name Michael Igor Peschkowsky in Berlin, Germany, he was best known for directing movies such as "The Graduate" (for which he won an Oscar for Best Director), "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?," "Silkwood," "Working Girl" and "Angels in America."
