2012: Composer, conductor and pianist Marvin Hamlisch dies at age 68 in Los Angeles, California, following a short illness, primarily due to respiratory arrest caused by a combination of anoxic brain encephalopathy and hypertension. Hamlisch was one of only 11 EGOTs -- those who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. He was also one of only two people to have won those four prizes and a Pulitzer Prize (the other being Richard Rodgers). Hamlisch also won two Golden Globes. He composed the score for the 1975 Broadway musical "A Chorus Line" and some of the movies he scored include "The Sting," "The Way We Were," "The Spy Who Loved Me," "Ordinary People" and "Sophie's Choice."
