2012: Composer, conductor and pianist Marvin Hamlisch dies at age 68 in Los Angeles, California, following a short illness, primarily due to respiratory arrest caused by a combination of anoxic brain encephalopathy and hypertension. Hamlisch was one of only 11 EGOTs -- those who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. He was also one of only two people to have won those four prizes and a Pulitzer Prize (the other being Richard Rodgers). Hamlisch also won two Golden Globes.
