Officers: Bank customers target of new scam
A sheriff's office in the region has a scam alert for some Southwest Virginia bank customers.
The Tazewell County, Virginia Sheriff's Office says it has received several complaints about text messages informing the recipient their Grundy National Bank Visa cards or debit cards have been deactivated. The message also gives a number to call.
The sheriff's office says these text messages are a scam and thieves are trying to steal from these bank customers.
The bank will not send a text message to relay that information and will also not ask for your information, such as card number or social security number because it already has that information.
If you get this text message, delete it and do not respond.
