The Sullivan County Grand Jury has cleared a Washington County, Virginia deputy who shot and killed a man who led officers on a chase.
Deputies say the pursuit involving Ramson McCoy started in Washington County, Virginia on Interstate 81 and ended on Highway 126 in Sullivan County, Tennessee.
Washington County Sheriff Fred Newman said McCoy had warrants for larceny.
Sullivan County District Attorney Barry Staubus says McCoy rammed Washington County, Virginia officer Tom Dula several times while Dula was ordering him to get out of his car. Staubas says Dula shot McCoy six times. He says Dula didn't violate the pursuit policy, and that the officer was in imminent danger. The grand jury decided the shooting was justified.
