A North Carolina bill to crack down on abortion clinics in the state is now law.
Republican Governor Pat McCrory signed that bill Monday.
News 5 has learned the law allows state officials to regulate abortion clinics based on the same standards as those for outpatient surgical centers.
Critics say the bill will force most clinics in the state to close.
Abortion-rights groups also say the move is a shift by the first-year governor who pledged as a candidate to not approve any new abortion restrictions.
Governor McCrory has responded, saying he is not limiting access to the procedure, but he is signing the bill for safer conditions.
