New Virginia billed aimed to increase school safety
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has signed a bill to improve school safety in the Commonwealth.
The bill comes after Governor McDonnell appointed a school safety task force in the wake of the Connecticut school massacre back in December.
The bill, recommended by the task force, allows for the hiring of more school resource officers, provides grants for security equipment improvements and also establishes campus threat assessment teams, much like those used by colleges. Regular lockdown drills will also be required.
When commenting on the bill, Governor McDonnell said it's important for officials to do everything possible to provide a safe learning environment.
