Investigators have released new facts on a deadly shooting in Russell County on Wednesday.
Chief Deputy Bill Watson with the sheriff's office tells News 5 they have charged Carlos Crabtree Junior with first degree murder, discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling, and use of a firearm while committing first degree murder
. Sheriff Steve Dye said he consulted with the Commonwealth's Attorney and determined enough evidence existed to charge Crabtree on January 2nd.
Crabtree is accused of shooting and killing 46-year-old Ricky Allen Holbrook with a 12-gauge shotgun in the Gravel Lick Road on New Year's Day.
Stacy Brown lives inside the home where the shooting happened. She said, "I don't really think anyone knew what to think we really didn't have time to grasp what was going on it all just happened pretty fast".
Brown told News 5 the victim 46-year-old Ricky Allen Holbrook came into the house uninvited where she lives with Crabtree. She said Crabtree is her fiance.
Brown said Holbrook is the father of her eight-year-old son, but they haven't been together for some time.
"We had told them that he needed to leave he was going toward the bedroom where Carlos was at my father told him repeatedly not to go back there don't go back there.There was an altercation between them and a shot and he was dead", said Brown.
The Russell County Sheriff's Office will continue to search for a motive in the case.
Crabtree is being held in the Southwest Regional Jail.
