Johnson City's new juvenile court facility is now officially open for business.
They cut the ribbon Friday on the new building, which used to be the senior center.
The building features updates such as new security systems, but the most noticeable change will be a more inviting space to handle legal issues involving children.
"We're dealing with some very sensitive, very emotional issues," said Johnson City Juvenile Court Judge Sharon Green. "We're talking about people's children, and we're talking about families, and we're talking about dependency and neglect, and so just having a larger space itself works tremendously in keeping down tensions."
People involved with juvenile court say that just having the improved space in the courtroom will make things much safer and secure for everyone involved.
