New Va. boating requirements begin July 1
Boaters in Virginia will soon have to take a safety course before hitting the water.
Starting July 1st anyone 40 and younger will need to have a boating safety course. This class can be taken online or in person at several locations throughout Virginia.
We talked with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries about this new requirement. "The goal of this is to make people aware of boating safety requirements make sure they are following the guidelines that we put out," says officer Tim Hayes.
We’ve learned next year anyone under the age 45 will be required to have the course, in 2015 the age limit goes to 50 and younger and in 2016 all boaters in Virginia will need to have a boater safety course.
