Federal and local authorities are taking down what they're calling a multi-year investigation into two separate meth organizations.

According to officers, they are executing 23 arrest warrants and 7 search warrants in Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.

It's the result of an investigation into two meth organizations operating in several counties.

Charges include conspiracy to distribute meth and other associated illegal activity.

Washington County Sheriff Fred Newman tells us,"This investigation will have a significant impact on the meth trade being brought into the mountain empire region."

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the Washington County Virginia Sherriff's Office, the Smyth County Virginia Sherriff's Office, the Johnson County Tennessee Sherriff's Office, the Carter County Tennessee Sherriff's Office, the Russell County Virginia Sherriff's Office, the Virginia State Police and the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration are participating in the investigation.
