More businesses coming to Exit 5 development
Bristol, Virginia leaders promised The Falls store roster would grab shoppers' attention. “[We want] to attract folks from a significant distance away from our community, folks who want to come here to have the total experience," says city manager Dewey Cashwell.
Thursday's unveiling was designed answer the question so many people have asked -- who is moving into The Falls?
Along with previously announced Cabela's comes the area's first Sheetz, a convenience store offering a full restaurant menu.
Two businesses known in the Knoxville area will open their first Tri-Cities locations: Smoky Mountain Brewery and Calhoun's BBQ.
Fast food chain Zaxby's will open its first Bristol store in the center as well.
City officials say having Cabela's here is a driving force behind securing many of the new businesses. "Cabela's is the key. This is phase one, we will have men and women's stores later on in phases two and three," says Bristol, Va. Mayor Jim Steele.
City manager Dewey Cashwell says the second anchor store should announced within the next couple of weeks.
Developers had approached Belk to locate in The Falls, but instead the department store announced Wednesday it's moving to the Pinnacle development in Bristol, Tennessee. Click here to read more about that story.
Dewey Cashwell says, "Obviously, we will miss the revenue Belk provided [in Bristol, Virginia]."
Cashwell says the city could not offer Belk the same tax deal as the other Falls tenants because the store is already in town. "We couldn't offer the same incentives to them with the new legislation like we can all the other businesses," says Cashwell.
Now city leaders say they are looking to replace Belk in the mall while trying to land more stores for The Falls. "We are going to work very hard to help the Bristol Mall put someone in there," says Steele.
The city manager says the last phase one anchor store at The Falls should be announced in a couple of weeks.
He also says phase two businesses should be unveiled in a couple of months.
Cabela's is set to open in 2014.
