Hampton police are investigating the death of a man who stopped breathing as officers were handcuffing him.
Sgt. Jason Price tells media outlets that officers tried to place 41-year-old Marlon Jermaine Dixon in emergency custody after they responded to a suspicious person report.
Price says Dixon was disorderly and combative. The officers thought he was suffering from an unknown medical condition. After Dixon was handcuffed, the officers saw that he wasn't breathing and began performing CPR. Dixon was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
Price says both officers are on administrative leave with pay.
