ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. -

"Liberty: The Saga of Sycamore Shoals", the Official Outdoor Drama of the State of Tennessee, gets underway Thursday evening.

Liberty is a two-act outdoor drama at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area depicting the settlement of Northeast Tennessee in the 18th century.

Historic events of national significance took place during this era. "A citizen militia came together on these grounds looking for British General Ferguson and they went to try to defend their homes because he had threatened to come here and lay waste to their country with fire and swords," said Sycamore Shoals Park Manager Jennifer Bauer.  "They are huge stories of risk and sacrifice and people fighting for freedom, you know, from the British crown in the late eighteenth century.

The drama honors great leaders of many cultures who lived west of the Proclamation Line of 1763.

It's happening the last 3 weekends in July from Thurs. - Sat. at 7:30 p.m.
