Local lifeguards train for opening of Kingsport Aquatic Center
Training is underway for 75 local lifeguards preparing for the opening of the Kingsport Aquatic Center. The opening is scheduled for May 17.
In a press release, the Aquatic Center says these lifeguards, many of whom are local high school students, will be the first group to use the pools in the new facility during lifeguard training on Tuesday, May 7 at 4:30 p.m. They say the lifeguards are being trained on emergency procedures, first aid and CPR/AED use, as well as the swimming and observational skills required to monitor swimmers in the state-of-the-art facility. All lifeguards at the Kingsport Aquatic Center will be certified by the American Red Cross.
The Aquatic Center says the employees will be trained to monitor the indoor features, including an eight-lane, 50-meter pool with diving platforms; a four-lane, 25-meter, zero-entry pool specially designed for instruction and therapy; and a leisure pool with water slide. The center also has an outdoor water park, open Memorial Day through Labor Day, featuring a large pool with a water playground and lily pad crossing, two water slides and a 900-foot lazy river.
