LEE COUNTY, Va. -

A local medical center is exploring options to change the way they provide health care and one option is reducing some staffed inpatient services.

Lee Regional Medical Center in Lee County, Virginia wants to "refine its care model to serve the needs of the community and the rest of Southwest Virginia."

Fred Pelle, the hospital's interim president, emphasized the hospital will remain open for service.

One option under consideration is reducing some staffed inpatient services to match patient trends.  Hospital officials cite the need from rural communities switching from inpatient care to outpatient services.
