A free course on "leave no trace" use of the back country is coming up this month in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
The two-day free course will be June 22 and 23, but registration is required by Monday.
The event will be at the Big Creek Horse Camp near Waterville, N.C., and is sponsored by the Great Smoky Mountains Association.
The outdoor ethics of leave no trace camping, both for hikers and trail riders, will be taught. Students who complete the program will be certified to teach the principles to other hikers, campers and riders.
The Backcountry Horsemen of North Carolina will teach how to reduce the impact of stock on the trails.
Registration and information can be had by calling Christine Hoyer at (856) 436-1265.
