JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -

The Mall at Johnson City marketing director Marsha Hammond tells News 5 people will travel as many as three hours to get to the mall Saturday for one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

"[We'll have as many as] 250,000 [people] possibly. It's a busy day," said Hammond.

Hammond tells us a lot of people are last-minute shopping this year, because there was one less weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas than usual. "We’ve only had three Saturdays between Black Friday weekend and Christmas, and this is the last Saturday," said Hammond.

Despite the shorter holiday shopping season, Hammond tells us sales have been higher compared to last year. "Certain stores are having double digit increases. Some stores are down, but overall we are up," said Hammond.

We learned gift and jewelry stores are seeing the biggest gains.
